Today at the British Open : Day ONE

Brits advance on Day One in Hull

The 2019 edition of the Allam British Open kicked off at noon today at the University of Hull – the last major tournament of the 2019 season, and the first to be staged entirely at the University.

The Glass Court at the new Sports Centre, and the traditional courts, hosted the first of two busy days of professional matches.

It was a generally good day for the home nations as Jenny Duncalf staved off retirement with a fine win over world junior champion Rowan Elaraby, and wildcards Jasmine Hutton, Patrick Rooney and Josh Masters also won through against the odds.

Other home winners were Emily Whitlock, Adrian Waller, Tom Richards, Lisa Aitken, Julianne Courtice, Greg Lobban, Millie Tomlinson, Daryl Selby and James Willstrop.

Five time champion Nicol David made sure of at least one more match in her final tournament, but Hull’s Fiona Moverley played her last match as she lost out to Low Wee Wern to herald retirement.
