The British Open continues today in Birmingham with 16 players looking to score wins to move into the quarter finals. Day one of round three gets underway at 12:00 (GMT+1) with all action now taking place on the all-glass court at The Rep Theatre, live on SQUASHTV.
Over half of the players featuring on day three hail from Egypt with only one match up not featuring an Egyptian. Two will go head to head in the day’s opening match as No.5 seed Nour El Tayeb will take on Hana Ramadan. Youssef Ibrahim and Joel Makin have already played three times this season, including in Manchester last week. The pair will go battle it out once more in the second match of the day with Makin leading the head to head record 3-1.
Salma Hany and Nele Gilis are the third match onto court in what is sure to be a hard-fought, intense affair before the new men’s World Champion Diego Elias closes out the afternoon session as he takes on World No.11 Youssef Soliman.
Top seeds Nour ElSherbini and Ali Farag will open the evening session against tough opponents Mohamed Abouelghar and Satomi Watanabe. A milestone match for Farag as he plays his 500th on the PSA tour.
An all-American battle between No.8 seed Olivia Weaver and Sabrina Sobhy is the penultimate match of the day. A fixture that has been played five times so far on the PSA tour, with Sobhy leading 4-1 in the head to head. Hungary’s Farkas Balazs scored a great win over the in-form Dimitri Steinmann in round two, his reward is the chance to take on the World No.5 Mazen Hesham in the final match of the day.
