Qualifying Preview

The qualification event of the GillenMarkets British Open 2025 gets underway tomorrow at Solihull Arden Squash Club with 64 players across both the men’s and women’s draws getting ready to fight for spots in the main draw of the most prestigious event in professional squash.

Four players from each draw will have to win three matches in a row to claim a spots in the main draw.

Play will feature on four courts from 12:00 (GMT+1), all live on SQUASHTV.

Former World No.2 Camille Serme will feature in the women’s draw as she looks to navigate through her section to feature in the main draw of the British Open for the first time since 2021. One of Serme’s biggest achievements in squash came back in 2015 when she captured the British Open title, becoming the first Frenchwoman ever to do so.

Elsewhere in the women’s draw, the top four seeds Tsz-Wing Tong, Ainaa Amani, Marie Stephan and Nicol Bunyan are all favourites in their sections and will be looking to make that count to reach the main draw. British quartet Lucy Turmel, Lisa Aitken, Georgia Adderley and Sarah-Jane Perry are all set to face qualifiers in the main draw in round one.

In the men’s draw, Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio, Scotland’s Rory Stewart, Egypt’s Kareem ElTorkey and England’s Simon Herbert top the draw as they look to advance to the main draw.

India’s Veer Chotrani received high praise by World No.2 Ali Farag after their RD2 World Championships clash. Farag likened the play of the Indian to ‘The Artist’ Ramy Ashour. Chotrani will be eager to continue his fine form as the No.7 seed and navigate past Switzerland’s David Bernet in round one.

Recent Irish Open runner-up Melvil Scianimanico is back in action looking to keep his purple patch going as he takes on Wales’ Emyr Evans. The Frenchman showed his resilience by winning three five-set matches in a row to reach the Copper event final. Can he bounce back after a gruelling week tomorrow in Birmingham?

Miguel Rodriguez, Declan James, Ramit Tandon and Curtis Malik have all drawn qualifiers in the first round.

The qualification event gets underway on Tuesday 27th May whilst main draw action commences on Saturday 31st. All action will be streamed live on SQUASHTV.
